Your Neighborhood Joint
You expect ordinary in your head before you step inside the Down Town Cafe but what you experience here is something soulful. The Cafe which has its roots in South India, Kerala region, but what they offer is is way off scale and direction. Here its more like fine casual Italian cuisine at an affordable price. Please dont think that they have compromised on the quality of the portion, no Sir. they have kept it all good and extremely enjoyable.
The place is well decked, upmarket and grand. Large blue sofas, and wooden furniture perfectly complimenting each other. Here there is no Wifi, its way peaceful, there is a large bookshelf with a treat to book lovers, they have board games in case you like to engage your brains. They serve Coffee as they should in a Cafe but they serve more, here they lean towards gourmet type offering.
Started off with their Sunshine, a beautiful mix of orange and strawberry. Then I got their creame of Mushroom. A nice thick hot serving, each scoop of this was a fine one, lovely way to start my time here. Pesto prawn was delicious, medium sized prawns cooked and embraced with pesto sauce, excellent to share.
The DT Flakes and flames is their signature pasta dish. The pink sauce was off the scales, this was adding the extra undertone for this perfect dish. The portion size was ideal for two people to enjoy. I have no doubt why they have put their name on this. For AED 32 this was a good heart warming dish.
Finally I got the chicken portabello, again as I mentioned earlier, you need to salute the team of Chefs who have thought of these wonderful dishes to serve here. Lovely presentation, grating of chicken breast wrapped in potato served on top of a avocado puree and portabello sauce. This baby was AED 30, and thats your whole lunch and worth it. For the dessert I got the Avocado cheese cake, the presentation was a skill and they chef had surely shown his touch here. The sweet balance was perfect, daint Avocado flavours was playing a gentle tune in each bite.
Overall, this is one place I will drop by if in this area, really your neighborhood place. The service is good and Ms. Riya took good care of us and gave her best service with a smile. I am definitely visiting this place soon.
