Sumo Sushi Bento - The Sushi People

Sumo Sushi Bento

They proudly wear the tag of being the original family friendly Japanese Franchise in UAE. With their humble beginnings way back in 2000 today they have numerous branches in UAE and a strong presence in GCC counties and more on the pipeline. We recently visited their branch at Town Centre Jumeirah. Seems this place as been as there as long as the mall it self,  serving faithful customers of many years.

The area is expansive and can easiy sit over 100 people. The seats are comfortable and the arrangements are fine. You could as for the sofa or the wooded chairs. The cooking area is the centre, so you can see what the chefs are cooking, looking around its all set to be a fine Sushi restaurant. We started with the Pomegranate and lemonade drink and SumoJito. Both were well prepared and mixed well, gave out a nice refreshing zesty flavour.

Starters we ordered the Rock n Roll Shrimp, Calamari rings, Gyoza, The Rock n rolla was a hit, excellent flavours and the size of the prawn was decent, even the presentation. Perfectly fried and covered with spicy mayo sauce. Lovely. The calamari rings was excellent with the mayo sauce, the texture of the calamari was fine. Gyoza was good too.

Next was the big guns, we had 4 adults with us and we were advised to go for the Akebono Special, but our friendly server. This was a fantastic platter which had 30 pcs of Sushi goodness of Tuna, Local white fish, Salmon, Shrimp, Squid, and many more. The fish was fresh, excellent sea fragrance was emitting from these beauties. The platter was good for us, value for money. We loved it more as the staff served the sushi's on a wooden boat, we really appreciated their creativity and for making it fun. We ordered the Chicken Katsu Bento, Black pepper seafood and BBQ Beef Bento. BBQ Beef was beautiful, thinly sliced beef, sauteed Sumo's own sauce, served with rice and veggies. This was valued for money for AED 52. Next was the Chicken Katsu, which was tender chicken breaded served with their own tangy sauce. We had a 4 year old with us who thoroughly enjoyed this. The black pepper was a let down for me. It was not what was shown on their picture and the flavors was below par, given the rest of the dishes here that let me down.

Still hungry for more Sushi we ordered the Ngiri Maki Bento, no complaints here, all was good, good portion. For desserts we ordered the Matcha creme brulee, and Tempura Ice creme. We loved the Ice creme, good preparation, loved it. The creme brulee was a bit disappointing as it was too watery inside.

It was a lovely experience overall at Sumo's. The server was excellent and unfortunately I forgot the name of the person. The service here was top class, friendly, smily faces definitely made us feel like home. This is a place that we will visit again.
