ESHAK - Some Thing Different
Located in the beautiful City walk area ,Eshak takes its' place. An authentic Uzbek, Russian, Georgian cuisine restaurant. A totally new lease for those adventurous foodies who are open to trying something different. Well, in that case Eshak is the place for you.
The interiors are well thought through, this gives a sense of being in an Russian era building. They have large wall Muriels highlighting the art of this region. Vibrant colour combination, high ceiling, interesting colorful chandeliers, all depicting a grand older era. The tabels and sofa are grand and colorful. All these adds to the grandeur of this place.
We started with Fizzy Sunset, which was a nice mix of orange, lemon. lime and grenadine. Nice drink loved it, felt the ice was a bit too much but the drink was nice. My wife ordered the fusion tea, which came in a contraption, which added to the fun. The tea was perfect, various flavours made it much delightful. We ordered the Chicken Kutabs, with the tandoor bread, Lamb mantas and the Borsch soup. The Borsch soup, which is a staple diet from the east European region was a fantastic soup. Loved the sliced beetroot with decent slices of the beef. Lovely broth and the flavours were fantastic. The cabbage, carrots, onions all slow cooked for couple of hours, with a dip of the tandoor bread was delicious. Takes you back in time when you enjoyed some good old home made soup by your mother. The chicken Kutab was another east European specialty, this is a flat bread made from sine dough and comes with a variety of filling. We had the option of cheese and Spicy chicken and we went with the latter. The lamb mantas was the equivalent to the Asian dumpling, the lamb was nice but it lacked flavor I felt. Apart from this, We loved the rest.
With another drink on that and this time it was Bay Breeze, which was fresh lime, strawberry, orange, lemon, a great mix of citrus, tasted good but again the chopped ice was a bit too much. For the main we ordered one of their top seller the Lamb shank. This was a beautiful piece of meat. Slow cooked and the delicious meat was simply falling off the bone. This came with quinoa and cherry molasses. The portion was fantastic, and the whole dish was perfect. We thoroughly loved this.
It was time for dessert and having such a heart filled meal, we asked the host to suggest for which they suggested the home made nuts, which was in the form of hazel nuts which was filled with caramelized chocolate. There like 7 large nuts and you couldn't eat more than 2 and this needs to be shared with others. Next was the Russian honey cake, layer of fine layers cake with vanilla creme and doused with honey. Interestingly this was not too sweet, perfect sweet level and again a good enough piece to share with two people.
Overall, we had a wonderful time, exploring a new cuisine. This did not have the spice level that we are used to, nor add more spices and herbs. But what we had here today was its own flavour profile, its culinary voices singing a beautiful song in our plates. These amazing food took us back in time and showcased their past history. Service was fantastic, Jay was very friendly and looked after us well. We will surely spread the word for people to try something new, something exciting at Eshak.
