SLAB At La Mer

SLAB Is Special

Well, having enjoyed our time at SLAB, I am thinking what and where that the restaurant should have done better. Well, I'm still pondering but all seems blank, cant think of anything negative to say.
Located in the newly developed La Mer beachfront, Slab is one of a kind restaurant. Well designed, and a proper balance of minimalists and comfort. The color combination is in sync right throughout  the interiors and even the exterior. With plants and a lively water body next to the restaurant add more grandeur to the place. They have outdoor seating all around and I am sure once the weather improves the outdoor will be in high demand.

Once we walk in we are greeted with a warm smiling host inviting us and taking us to a seat which we preferred. Still the cool ambiance the perfect balance of light and the green plants are keeping us interested. Then it was time for us to order and order we did, starting with our drinks. My friend, who invited me to SLAB is a prominent food blogger in Dubai and he was good company. So we ordered  Golden Temple and Pina Smash. Golden temple was a mix of  fresh Raspberry, strawberry, lime juice, vanilla syrup and ginger ale. It had a proper fight going on in between sweet and sour and I loved the flavours. My friend was enjoying his drink which was a mix of cilantro, chili syrup, pineapple juice and this came with a long red chili. A Tad bit spicy but he loved it, this is what you get here, many speciality menu items that adds new life to the local dining options.

We then got the  Kale Salad, they call it the simple Kale but honestly there is nothing simple here. This was one of the finest Kale salad that I have ever had. This was made fresh and had mint and  lime mojo was adding new flavour profiles to this fine dish. Next was the  Snapper ceviche. A flavorful dish, made more fine by adding of the gooseberry, shiso and black lime. The snapper was fresh and you could even taste the freshness of the sea. Next we got the assorted chips which was in three varied colors, as those were made from Potato, Sweet potato and cassava. The winner was the dip which was a smoked onion dip which was really good. A totally different kind of flavour.

One thing was sure here, though there are South American influences and Asian touches, but you cant put a finger and say this is unique to one type of area or cuisine. They are international, the flavours are unique and the cooking methods are refined to give the customers a one of the kind experience.

While we continued enjoying the amazing food, we continued to order the Charred corn and a few more. Trust me the process of this is super, they make the broth from the corn on the cob, when its served its grilled and then cut into small pieces. The flavours of the broth is amazing, your tongue will enjoy the magical flavours of this dish. Next was the Crispy Octopus and trust me they have gone all length to make this a perfect dish for the customers. The Octopus is Sous vide for 5 hours and just before serving its shallow fried to keep the flesh tender and the outer had got a bit of crispiness. Usually you would expect the Octopus meat to be a bit chewy, but not this baby. This was really fantastic, you feel the freshness and is served with the gochujang aioli. Each bite was fantastic, refreshing and you really appreciate the passion that has gone behind this dish.

More to come, Smoked Beef Jam and Spicy noodles. The beef is smoked for nearly 16 hours and it break down the beef to a soft tasting goodness. This is served with a truffle mustard and the pickles on top just cuts all the flavours and hold the beauty of this dish in each bite. fantastic. The beef is so soft and its served as a jam on bread base. sensational this. The spicy noodle was a great dish to end the feast that we were having here. Lovely flavors and totally Asian fusion, the long noodles were a bit handful to serve but once it was  in the plate, the only way it was going was into your hungry mouth.

The dessert menu was small but what they offered was a fine touch of excellence.  Tres Leches and the Insanity pie was splendid. You can definitely see the touch of the Chef in each of this dish. A delicious way to end the evening.

Yet, we were not wanting to leave this place, there was something magical about this place, you feel at home and the amazing people here are your family, for they make you so comfortable. You know that you were treated to  a world class quality food and service and you feel honoured, simply being here. If you know food, food preparation, presentation and passion, then you will know that you were in their mind, they wanted to give you a royal treatment. Then I found that this was the real power that is holding us here and loving us more. It will be a crime if you dont visit here, for a touch of the good life ( which you will get in many places) this is one such place. You will be loved and will take away a wonderful memory from here.
