The Blacksmith

Smokin' Hot

I have heard about The Blacksmith for a long while and it was on my list of go to places to enjoy some fantastic smoked meat. Located at the Wyndham Dubai Marina Hotel, this restaurant is one fine place.

As you step off the elevator you are taken into a fine southern smoke house. Cool wooden Interiors with logs neatly stacked, comfortable table settings and sofas. If you are a bit of the adventures  type for this weather, you can sit outside, next to the massive Johnson Smokers and enjoy the skyline. We opted to sit inside in the comforts of the cooler atmosphere but yet smelling the aroma in the air.

We started with Strawberry Mango Hawaiian cocktail, a fantastic mix of strawberry, mango and pineapple and man if tropical drinks is your thing, it doesn't get any better than this. I loved it, refreshing, the presentation and the colour combination was magic. My friend picked the Cucumber mojito. not my thing but my friend enjoyed the fresh cucumber. We ordered the smoked chill in rubbed wing, which was highly recommended. For AED 36 this was a fantastic way to start, Loved the smokey flavours, and the punching chilli flavours. Loved it, I like it when its sticky and savoury. this was value for money.

Next was the, well the name got us thinking a bit, the Armadillo Eggs. Surely this was not the  eggs eggs, but an amazing dish made from ground beef, mixed with Jalapenos, cheddar and chilli and some spices. A large ball with the mean inside well tucked in for flavour, These eggs were quite large and perfectly smoked and for  AED 36 is fully worth it.

For the main, which the menu was quiet tempting, we choose to go with BBQ Beef Short Ribs and BBQ Apricot Duck Breast. The short ribs I will remember for a long while, this was fantastic. Now I know these guys really know when they say "Smoke". This baby has been cooking for over 14 hours in the massive Johnson Smoker, just to have the meat to juicy, which was smoked with salt and peppery rich crust and with Whitesmith BBQ sauce. You can enjoy this perfect piece of meat, taking your time and enjoy the richness of what 14 hours of slow and low cooked magic. Both these dishes were served with  cilantro lime slaw and bbq beans. These were top quality sides, add their own flavours to the dish. The Duck was crisp on the skin and was a bit hard, I was hoping it to be a bit softer. The duck was rubbed in their signature apricot dry rub, and smoked to perfect caramelization. I would have liked it to be a bit softer but the taste was fine nonetheless.

By now we were quite full and enjoying this wonderful meal that we had, so we decided to go for one dessert, which was the  Flaming Jack Daniel Pecan Pie. And oh boy.. was that flaming or not, It was one perfect dessert. The mixologist pours o bit of the good ol' Daniel and then lit the glass and the alcohol was burning, which he quickly cupped the dessert, which went on to melt the butter custard, sticky sugary goodness. You gotta order this for the drama and the flavours. A perfect was to end an awesome evening.

This was a wonderful and a memorable evening for us and our host. Ms. Jacklyine made it wonderful. Her genuine smiles and professional banter and care really impressed us. A job well done Jacklyine. This place is dope for smokers passion and moreover they have some crazy deals going on during the week. Come and check it our, you will love the place and thank me later.
