Let's Keep Roll'in
Roti Rollers is a cool name for a new restaurant, who wants to be set apart. This is not your usual wrap joint or a Tea & Coffee place, well you get a plethora of them anyways. These guys didn't just come up with a name nor a gimmick to make money, well when you speak to the man behind the concept you will know that they are where for the long run.
Located in the Laguna area at La Mer, The RR is in a prime spot, the whole area is like a bliss to walk thru. Greeted by a wooden facade of a Tuk Tuk, just swoops you back to your home town. When you enter the simple but elegant designs start to marvel you. Lovely seating arrangements, all wooded table tops, metal works happening here and there. You will love the cozy ambiance and the welcoming faces of the energetic staff inside.
I Took my seat right at the back so I have a good look of the restaurant and to have an unobstructed backdrop for the pics. I started with a mango lassi and then later on the Avoda lassi as well. Both were fresh and tasted good, not too sweet. One thing you need to remember is that they have taken the traditional street food and have not extremely played with the ingredients and flavours. True they have tried to mix it up to bring our more flavour profiles but that have kept it close to the original, so the base taste and feel is not overpowered.
Then I got the Chaats, Dhai puti and paani puri. Well what can I say, sensation mix of flavours, the puri was holding up even being loaded, dhai and all the colorful array of toppings, well fresh, made in house, was simply great. The portions are good too. Next we got the Roti crisps, this was a fine take on varieties of roti's with a wonderful array of chutneys and sauces. They have from knock your sock off spicy to low heat ones. They use wheat floor for the rotis, making it a healthier option. They even got roti made in beetroot and avocado mix to give various colors. The who tray is a play of colors. top flavours.
We got the the great Indian Pav Bhaji and they made it de-constructed in the offering. You can make your own Pav. This was a realy fine dish, perfect balance of flavours, its so intereting as you can get your kids involved in making their own Pav. Next was the summer rolls, thinking sliced vegetables, perfectly rolled in a type of Vietnamese roll. Each bite was crunchy and definitely a healthy form of a wrap. We were still feeling bit enthusiastic as we went for the Lamb Shank redemption role, a well marinated lamb, perfect mix of spices and herbs and it comes with masala fries, made by using spices from Tamil nadu. The lamb has been cooking for over 8 hours, each bite was packing a punch for me.
The evening ended with Kulfi and Jalebi. These we good, having their own flavours. Jelebi was fried in Ghee. not too sweet. Overall It was a fantastic meal at this fine restaurant. It was my pleasure to meet Chef Sameer, hearing his passion, and the back stories was amazing. His passion for the food and his desire to see the customers accepting and appreciating his food is special. Meeting him added to my experience and I promised him that I will visit him again soon.
